Utah’s Grand County Council Supports BLM Master Leasing Plan
Local business owner Kalen Jones, views the MLP through the lens of protecting the largest revenue source in Grand County — tourism.
“The oil and gas sector provides 20 to 70 jobs in contrast to anywhere from the 1,500 to 2,500 tour-related jobs,” Jones said. “[Oil and gas] is an important part of the economy but there’s this much bigger and more stable part that doesn’t fluctuate with the price of oil and gas.”
“We want stable growth,” Jones added. “Oil and gas can provide a supplement but it’s not stable enough to base an economy on.”
